Mental Health: Communication Strategies


People with mental illness successfully work across the full spectrum of workplaces. Some people disclose their mental illness and some do not. This course explores communication strategies that foster awareness and discussion of mental health issues in the workplace.

Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • Understand the prevalence of mental health issues in the workplace.
  • Know how to help break the stigma around mental health issues.
  • Know key steps that workplaces can take.
  • Have practised good communication skills, including active listening.
  • Have increased your confidence in helping co-workers discuss mental health issues.

Average time to complete this course is approximately one hour.

Mental Health: Communication Strategies was developed by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) and is delivered in partnership with WorkSafe Saskatchewan
